Writing a Book

Thursday, October 12th, 2006
I have decided, after much time, to write a book(s)… perhaps even a series of ebooks first. I have posed a question to my viewers across a few of my websites. The email said this:
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
I have been online for around 10 years. I have done many different things to help earn a living for our family and have now become the main breadwinner. I get lots of questions and thought I should write a book(s) and/or ebooks to share my experiences with others. There are a range of things I have done (and still do) that include: reselling, auctions, computer graphics, websites with content, website design, selling my own products, drop shipping, wholesaling, advertising, direct sales, and more.**Question: Do you have something you are curious about in any of those areas? If so, please send your question to me.Think of it as sort of an interview. I will collect your questions and answer them to provide exactly what you would like to know and put the information in a book(s). I have seen too many people do the wrong things or unnecessary things when trying to do a business online. Hopefully this can be avoided with my suggestions or information. Send in your questions along with your Name/State/Country/Business for credit. I can’t guarantee I will use all questions, but I will try. Go ahead and pass this along to anyone you think would like to ask a question too. If I create an ebook with your question in it, I will give you a complimentary copy of the ebook. :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I have now received over 70 replies and some contain multiple questions. I am collecting these and have already started with the beginnings of the book(s).

What have you been up to? :P
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Wendy,

Excellent venture, I must say… only thing I can ask is, “why did you wait so long?” Please let me know if you would like an extra set of eyes to look over anything for you… I’d be happy to help out!

Love,
Lee

Hi, Wendy;
I’ve been trying to figure out how to do many of the things you’ve got listed, for a few years, now, in between everything else life tends to throw my way, even a fulltime attempt as a “Work from Home” job. I guess, if I were to ask a Q for your book, it would be along the lines of where a woman can go to get this kind of info–simply, and clearly put–for free? One site or e-book would be enough to get the ball rolling, then the other things could have a price tag! (Did that make any sense?)
Anyway, I just found your site(s) and I am inspired.
thanks,
abbie

Link Sizzler

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

What have I been up to recently? I found Link Sizzler. For a week and a half I disappeared and found myself indulged in installing and creating logos for about 50 new websites based on the Link Sizzler software which was made available by Joel Comm. My first couple of niche websites are 500 Gifts and 1000 Baby Gifts . When I reached 50 websites I realized I needed a “home base” website for easy reference for all of them, so I built Sizzler Sites.

I have known Joel online for a while and we have lots of things in common, especially making money online and being super busy. He homeschools too. :) The first site Joel created with his software had 500 words and Joel sold all of the words in a short amount of time and shot up high in Alexa to #3. Since the site launched, over 33,000 people have visited! That’s an incredible launch. The advertisers on the website have been very happy with the traffic they have received and it is said this is a better way to advertise than Google Adwords. However, it’s a good idea to consider keeping many forms of advertising.

This new software toy gave me ideas and made my head buzz so much that I was hardly able to sleep! Ask Mike, he’ll tell you. What I see in this software is a great way for me to help promote the many, many people who come in contact with me looking for ways to get traffic to their websites for their products and services. Sometimes they can’t afford to purchase a newsletter spot or keep up with a monthly paid spot on my websites. They can now purchase a spot on one or more of my 50 Sizzler Sites for less cost. For a one time fee, spanning two years, their link will appear on the niche site getting continual traffic. The keywords or name links move randomly around the page giving more equal exposure than on link exchange pages.

I may plan content around several of these niche sites, including blogs to allow the members/contributors to inform visitors of updates for coupons, specials, new products, cool events, etc. The traffic is already there, so why not?!?

Link Sizzler was incredibly easy for me to install. In a couple of days it paid for itself and earned a nice profit, which was well earned for my time setting up the websites. The ideas for using Link Sizzler are unlimited. We are only as good as the tools we use. The cost was worth it since I was able to take advantage of a new viral tool faster than if it were available at a cheaper rate which would have allowed more competition in setting up these sites. Not to mention, I purchased from someone that I know, like, and trust.

I look forward to promoting those of you who advertise by buying a word on my Sizzler Sites! :)

Jewelry

Saturday, July 1st, 2006

My 12 yr old son is already thinking about saving for a car and college. Entrepreneurship seems to be running in his veins. He has decided to start making jewelry by hand to sell and save the money for his future. (he’ll also donate some to charity) . We both love making this jewelry. The first pieces will be handmade sterling silver bracelets.

I just finished setting up his basic site called Jewelry Jingle. Two bracelets are in stock and others can be preordered.

I’m a proud mom! :)

Charts

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

I started off by making printable chore charts and homeschool schedules for my children. I knew other parents could also use these charts, so I made them available online through my TipzTime.com site for free. They became so popular, that I decided to make them available on their own domain at ChartJungle.com and the site has been running and growing for years. I keep adding new charts for use in many areas of life, not just for use with kids.

Chart Jungle has now been mentioned in a few magazines, newspapers, books, and other media. I hope to see this continue since the site helps so many parents with the free charts.

I have recently begun making the charts editable online. They are also in a higher resolution version so that I can make them into books and place them on cds. This will be useful for those who have no internet or who have slow internet connections. It is also a good idea for those who don’t like to use a lot of printer ink.

I just made an announcement to my newsletter list about it… “Your wish is perhaps my command. I want to make some of the charts on ChartJungle.com available in book formats without the ads and possibly cd formats. Send me a message telling me which charts you would like me to concentrate on first. Pricing will be determined and steps taken to get started. Send in your main choices - contact me here

It has been a fun project to work with over the years. :)

KEYN 103.7 FM Radio

Saturday, June 3rd, 2006

I am really liking Wichita, Kansas, and I haven’t even been there, that I can think of. A subscriber, Nita H., wrote on May 26th to let me know my Chart Jungle .com website was mentioned on the KEYN 103.7 FM radio station.

I asked her what was mentioned and she said “It was on either that morning or the morning before. They were discussing getting family life under control and asked the audience if they scheduled their childrens’ days. One of the listeners called in exclaiming how wonderful your site is.”

My husband mentioned that it seems Wichita has a great network of parents helping each other. I think it is great!

-Thanks to the listener who called in!
-Thanks Nita for letting me know!
-Thanks KEYN 103.7 FM Radio!

Magazine Media

Thursday, May 25th, 2006

Practical Parenting Magazine I have been informed by several new subscribers that my Chart Jungle website has been mentioned in the Practical Parenting Magazine of Australia. The mention was in a dotcom section of the magazine.

I researched to find a website or contact for the magazine to give credit and get permission to post something about it, along with a scan. I like to credit those who share my websites. :)

I came across what I thought was the Practical Parenting magazine company, which actually turned out to be the UK sister company of the one in Australia. I downloaded a digital version of this magazine and couldn’t find where the dotcom section was.

I finally got contact with the editorial assistant, Alicia, of the Australia magazine. She informed me Chart Jungle did appear on their ‘dot.com’ page (pg. 12 of the June Practical Parenting). The two magazines are different in content, but are sister companies. This Australian magazine is through Time, INC. , has a readership of 112,000 and is run by Editor Lynne Cossar.

From what I saw of the digital version, it is a beautiful magazine for parents, with great content. They don’t currently have a website, but anticipate having one this year. If you live in Australia, you can go to your local news agency or supermarket to obtain a copy.

- Thanks goes to a subscriber, Sue, for the scans. :)
- and Thanks Practical Parenting. :)

Saturday, April 29th, 2006

One of my subscribers, Krista, wrote and let me know about the radio mention for my Chart Jungle website. She told me it was B98 FM in Wichita, Kansas. Brett, one of the morning talk show hosts, was talking about schedules for his own home and a listener called in and told him about Chart Jungle.

Thanks to Krista for letting me know, thanks to whoever called in, and thanks to Brett for presenting the topic in the first place. I have seen several signups from it for my free printables.

Journal

I can officially say that I have been interviewed by and published within The Wall Street Journal about my success with affiliate programs and affiliate marketing. I talked with a reporter named Kelly Spors. We spoke last week for about an hour and again on Monday for about an hour. She is very sweet. You can find the article in today’s edition on Page B8. If you have the paid subscription - click here.

Unfortunately, I can’t post it here or any scans of it as they require people to pay to use the material. I do have my personal online copy though. :)

Congrats to Shawn Collins who was also interviewed and published in the article.

This industry has certainly been growing and changing since we started in it.
